Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Update
You will have seen the news reports on coronavirus (COVID-19) and the latest Government plans.
At the moment, the country is in the ‘contain’ phase. This means that Public Health England and the NHS are working to detect and isolate cases of coronavirus as they emerge in the UK. The Prime Minister has stressed that it remains very much, “Business as usual.”
In Staffordshire, there are currently no confirmed cases, and the advice is to carry on as usual and continue to follow Department of Health guidance. The Public Health England website has all the latest advice and guidance.
We have established an Incident Management Team (IMT) to finalise our own action plan. Each department has a business continuity plan, and all departments are working to determine what the impacts will be in a worst-case scenario, and what can be done to mitigate these impacts.
In the meantime, there are practical steps that our communities can take to lessen the chance of infection. This includes washing hands more and using the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ strategy for coughs and sneezes.
Added to this, you can help reduce the impact and spread of misinformation by relying on information from trusted sources, such as that on the NHS website and Public Health England. On your social media, please only share and retweet information from official sources such as the NHS and Public Health England. This way, we can ensure our communities are getting the right information.
